I don’t know you yet, Robin, but will soon teach you words you shouldn’t say, things you shouldn’t do and to love every precious day. That’s a Papa’s job. Also, l will always have chocolate and one day Nonna Sharon will get you a kitten.
I know your mum, though- and she’s wonderful. Like you, she came into the world with eyes wide open; tiny and perfect; noisy, nosey and kinetic; and with a full head of hair (ginger). Your mum so sooooo wanted you, Robin. She truly did; she truly does.
One day I will tell you the story of a young woman who could be anything but decided she wanted most, or at least first, to be your mum. So she did that, all on her own.
One day I will tell you the story of how your name reminds us of my dad. When I talk about Papa Hugh it may make me cry, which doesn’t happen often.
One day I will tell you all about your mum- Masters with Distinction from UCL, Honours from Glasgow, straight as all the way and so much more- but that’s a story not even half written. She will be, she is, much more than your mum and you will see her fly.
Robin, you are one lucky girl, enjoy the amazing journey you’ll have with my daughter.
201 million. Hannah.
