KWC is proud to support Growth Through Diversity with the 30% Club as we approach International Women’s Day
International Women’s Day is celebrated globally on the 8th March every year. As well as recognising the social, economic, cultural and political achievements of women, the day also marks an important call to action for gender equality across all walks of life.
As a business that is 50% owned by Managing Director, Sharon McLellan, gender balance and providing as many development and leadership opportunities as possible for women is of huge importance. One of the ways in which KWC supports these values is working with the 30% Club, a group of like-minded people from across the world who champion the ethos that women’s economic participation and leadership in business is essential for driving business performance.
When the 30% Club was established in 2010, the goal was to reach 30% female representation on boards as a very minimum: a percentage which reflects the number at which a minority group starts to become heard and considered.
At this time, only 12.5% of FTSE 100 boards and 9.5% of FTSE 350 boards were female. In 2019, the FSTE 350 had 30% of board positions filled by women for the very first time, demonstrating that progress is indeed possible.
By joining the 30% Club, members publicly indicate their support for this business practice, and commit to use their influence to bring about change in their own organisations, and actively assist in recruiting and spreading the word to other Chairs and key influencers.
The 30% Club runs a variety of initiatives that assist with broadening the pipeline of women at all levels of organisations. Next month, KWC will deliver one of these events for five female members of the 30% Club alongside other senior businesswomen from Dublin. With a focus on presence, impact and influence, the session will look at some of the key skills and behaviours required to achieve this including the six factors of influence: likeability; Reciprocity; Social proof; Being consistent; Authority and Scarcity.
